Artist of the Day: Pixelord

The Pixelord is Alexey Devyanin. He’s a Moscow-based veteran of experimental music, best-known for his Gultskra Artikler moniker. When we got to know that his new project is about BEATS, it was instantly clear that is has to be groundbreaking great.

His debut four-track EP “Lucid Freaks” brings forth a mixture of spliffed-out 8bit riddims, stumbling Hip Hop beats and a pinch of Euro Dance glam. However unique, the weirdo plastic Pop of Glasgow’s Hudson Mohawke is echoed in his tunes as well as bass-driven digital Reggae, Jahtari-style (Last.fm, 2010).

Artist of the Day: DZA

First Dza’s beat tape Five-Finger Discount has been released at Error Broadcast in 31st of May 2010.

DZA must’ve hacked into an old orbiting Sputnik or drifting Soviet satellite to get the sounds he uses to make his atmospheric beats. Since he set up his Myspace page only a few months ago, he’s already been collaborating with Aloe Blacc, Herrmutt Lobby, Shadow Huntaz, Om’mas Keith of Sa-Ra Creative Partners, and fellow 2010 participant Mujuice (As Cut2Kill). Meanwhile, taking his live show to MIDEM earlier this year has brought him plenty of new fans from overseas. Finding that elusive balance between heavy beats and weightless ambience, DZA is ready to snap necks and leave a zilla-sized footprint on Red Square (Last.fm, 2010).

Artist of the Day: Shlohmo

20-years old Shlohmo (living in Los Angeles and San Francisco) delivers the soundtrack for the LA aftershow party. His tracks swarm from dirty textures, strange sounds and obscured samples. It’s Hip Hop that you hear, the echoes are clearly there: under the blanket the beats are alive and kicking, the compression is awful (as we love it) and from the way Shlohmo arranges his tracks, it is clear what this kid listens to at night (Last.fm, 2010).

Released Albums:
Shlohmo - Shlo-Fi EP

Artist of the Day: Aeed

AEED set off to illustrate what the minds of information-saturated teenagers sound like. All bleeps, stuttering kicks and misplaces snares, this Tessin-based bad man is something very unique. His loose Rap is strongly influenced by 8bit music and videogame soundtracks, but at the same time, Pop and spaced-out Dub are important, too. If computers could die from karōshi, their elegy would be an AEED tune (Last.fm, 2010).
